“I carry my landscapes around with me” Joan Mitchell 


My work explores the relationship between memory and our experience of the natural world. I’m fascinated by the way a landscape stays imprinted in us long after we have moved on.

I’m interested in capturing some of the more intangible imprints of our experiences: sounds, scents, visual rhythms and repetitions, light play, emotional and physical colour. I incorporate these into my visual language so that my work speaks of an emotional response to a given landscape.

Nature is inspiring but sadly, it is fragile

And that bittersweet realisation underpins a lot of my work. So, alongside my painting practise, I’m active in fund-raising for conservation groups. My painting “Masirah” raised 26,000 USD in 2020 for the Environment Society of Oman and I regularly partner with schools and NGOs, running art workshops to empower young people and raise awareness of the need to conserve the environment.

I have exhibited in several group shows as well as having two sell-out solo exhibitions under my belt. I was nominated for the Portuguese Sovereign Art Prize in 2023 and 2024 and my work is held in private and public collections around the world.
